Below on my page is a poll about the preferred type of narrative in a romantic (one shot) fan-fiction. I've been trying to write more romantic fanfics but I keep side tracking myself with what "voice" to use. It's harder to pull off the first person narrative without the excuse of it being their journal (referring to my DOAWK fic). I'm trying to do a simple one-shot that's focused on the reader, but using a vague protagonist makes it harder to convey a romantic connection. So I'm basically trapped between using a vague narrator (which could kill the story) and a random OC (which I believe people tend to hate).
[Hime rambles too much] So, my poll is basically asking ya'll which type of narrative you guys would prefer to read.
Ambiguous First Person- Uses I, me, and my without ever alluding to specific character traits or physical features.
Second person- Using "you".
Ambiguous third person- A narrator is telling the story, but the protagonist is still never described in detail.
Third person with an OC- A narrator is telling the story but I make up an OC so that I better utilize imagery and give the protagonist a personality.
First person with an OC- The OC will be telling the story.
So feel free to comment with your thoughts because I literally have rewritten one of my stories 5 times just because I couldn't decide on which perspective to use. I mean, are OCs really that taboo at this point?
